Primary Mathematics AssociationWelcome to our website!

The Primary Mathematics Association (PMA) is a voluntary, professional organisation of people who are interested in the learning and teaching of mathematics at all levels within the primary school.

Our objectives are:

  • To provide opportunities for teachers to share and associate with others, searching for ways to provide optimum mathematics learning opportunities for children
  • To promote and support research into mathematics learning and teaching
  • Investigate and assist in the development of mathematics programmes, CWSA and CWSN
  • Raise community awareness of the need for children to have access to quality programmes which provide challenge and enjoyment
  • Promote and encourage an awareness of cultural influences and gender issues related to the learning and teaching of mathematics

Our major event is our yearly seminar day held at Waipuna Conference Centre in Auckland. The date for 2019 has been set for Saturday March 23rd with the theme: 'The Beauty of Mathematics'. We are delighted to have Anthony Harradine, the Director of the Potts-Baker Institute operating out of Prince Alfred College, as our keynote speaker. His talk will centre around how individuals' understandings of mathematical concepts differ greatly and how we might work towards a more consistent experience for our learners.
